Held in conjunction with the Singapore Art Show, The Next Chapter – Forays into LASALLE’s Permanent Collection attempts to re-write the narratives and histories of the art collection of one of the leading art institutions in Singapore. What defines the notion of contemporary? Can an exhibition be contemporary if the works emerge and originate from the modern context? How important is the setting of the exhibition to the art works? Helmed by recent LASALLE BA(Hons) Arts Management alumni Syed Muhd Hafiz (curator) and Daphne Ang (assistant curator), the exhibition features a total of 29 diverse artworks from 26 artists including Chua Ek Kay, Cheong Soo Pieng, Liu Kang and Jason Lim. The Next Chapter aims to bridge the past and the contemporary, while critiquing the lifestyle concept of the art in our modern society.

The curators’ interest in the evolving role of museums and collection is seen in the programming of the exhibition which offers expositions of Singapore art history presented through experimental means and methods in guided tours to secondary and tertiary students from various institutions. The tours will be conducted by students from the Arts Management programme of LASALLE.

The Next Chapter is a partner programme of the Singapore Art Show 2009.
