INSTINC Squares Invasion – 50×50 Painting Competition 2011


INSTINC organizes SQUARES INVASION – The 50×50 Painting Show 2011 (20-31 OCT 2011), aimed to promote painting as an art form which seems to be forgotten as the art scene embraces more video and installation works and to create a platform for talented up-and-coming local painters to showcase their works and get recognition & exposure through INSTINC PRIZE and PEOPLE’S PRIZE.

The selection of the artworks will be carried out by the Jury composed by experts and important professionals of the art scene :

Milenko Prvacki – Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts, LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts, Singapore

Kelley Cheng – Creative Director of The Press Room

Kuros Nekouian – Founder of LW44, Munich Germany

Shih Yun Yeo – Founder of INSTINC

PEOPLE’S PRIZE:

Prizes:

INSTINC PRIZE: Solo show at INSTINC in 2012 and chance to to be an artist-in-residence at LW44 for a period of one month, an artist-run space in Munich, Germany(air fair and living expenses not included). Selection is based on a rating system that considers uniqueness, skill and ambition. (professionalism as an artist)

The PEOPLE’S PRIZE wins a solo show at Day and Night Gallery in 2012 which will be held simultaneously as the solo show in INSTINC. End of voting 31 OCT 6pm Singapore time.

Rules:

The work cannot be exhibited before AND must be original work, not reproductions.

CATEGORY: Painting – works realized with technical and stylistic freedom (oil, tempera, acrylic, ink, vinyl, watercolor, graphite, pencil, collage, etc.) on whichever support (canvas, paper, wood, plastics, iron, etc.)and signed only on the back, to be exhibited anonymously. Works signed at the front will be disqualified for the INSTINC AND PEOPLE’S PRIZE.

SIZE: The ONLY dimensions allowed per each work are 50cmx50cm(If framed, must not exceed 50cm by 50cm) Submitted Painting/s should be ready to be hung.

Open to artists of all ages, Singaporeans, Permanent Residents, and artists that are based in Singapore.

Size: Each artwork must be 50cm by 50cm(if framed, must not exceed 50cm by 50cm)

The documentation and the photos won’t be given back.

For the partial support of the organization expenses, each shortlisted artist requires to pay an application fee of S$50 for one work and $20 for each additional work. Each shortlisted artist may exhibit a maximum of five works. Only cash is accepted on the day of collection of the artworks. Artists must keep a copy of the payment receipt. Application fees are not-refundable.

Each shortlisted artist will get at least one catelogue, limited to one page, one artwork by each selected artist.

Singapore Contemporary Young Artists Project (SCYA) is a non-profit Art Society that highlights Contemporary Art by Young Artists in Singapore through several platforms in exhibitions, websites, talks, workshops & commissioned services. SCYA was initiated by Jacquelyn Soo who is an artist, curator and director for SCYA. SCYA has over 10 members in the society contributing ideas, activities to support the organisation. SCYA represents up to 70 Singaporean/PR Artists in their works.
