Playing With & For The Community

My heartland memories – A Community Art Project with HDB and Teck Ghee Vista residents

HDB approached us when they saw our Family Pictures exhibition early this year. They wanted us to work on a community art project with the residents. SCYA proposed to drawing workshop where our members teach residents how to make images of their estate and portraits of their neighbours using watercolour and painting materials. Along with the Residents’ Committee of Teck Ghee Vista, we spent 1 weekend at the estate on 24-25 March with facilitators Dan, Rachel Chan, Billy Soh and Sha Najak. The launch was on 21 April which was graced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

“The workshop was my first experience working with residents from Teck Ghee Vista. They were very nice and warm. The residents were curious with drawing skills and asked me questions about techniques. All in all, it was a pleasant day to spend with total strangers.” – Sha
