Art Showcase: DiverseCity 2012

Singapore International Foundation’s (SIF) DiverseCity celebrates the breadth and global reach of Singapore art, and the collaborations and friendships between local and global artists that naturally follow.

This is a multi-part showcase. Featuring more than 35 cross-collaborative works of art by Singaporean artists, DiverseCity 2012 will be a true celebration of not only the repertoire and global reach of Singapore art and culture, but cross-cultural exchange and collaboration at its very best. Still images and videos will also document over 60 other art projects presented around the world by Singaporean artists over the last year.  A culmination of the foundation’s programmes in 2012 for connecting communities through art, DiverseCity 2012 will showcase, firstly, works that have been supported by SIF’s Singapore Internationale grant, which makes cross-cultural collaboration a compulsory element in the art. The works spans four genres, namely Visual/Literary, Music/Sound, Performing Arts, and Multi-Disciplinary arts.

The second aspect of the showcase features more collaborative works, this time arising from the bilateral SIF-British Council Artist-in-Residence exchange programme, and a cross-cultural exploration of Bangkok, Hong Kong, Manila and Singapore. Involving 30 artists, Project Glocal is coordinated by artists from the Philippines, Thailand and Hong Kong.

A third highlight of DiverseCity is Arts Connection, which harnesses the power of the arts for social and community development. Featured is Little by Little, a collaboration between SIF and the Little Arts Academy that involves the international community in art and cultural exchanges to enrich the lives of youths in Singapore.
