Come down to Goodman Arts Centre to check out one of our member’s, Benedict Chen, debut solo photography exhibition about the much talked about Singapore train’s system.
Spread the word to your friends and join us on 13 December, 7pm!

The Singapore Subway exhibition is a portrait of individuals commuting via the MRT. Benedict Chen spends his hours and days tracing lives and stories in the MRT. Inevitably fleeting moments, once captured, what emerge are multiplicities of life contained and transported on the MRTs of the 2.7 million people who ride its 4 lines every day. The collected images are a cross-section of Singapore’s common people, focusing starkly on their impermeable live: a collective, yet powerful individual.

The MRT’s first line opened on 7 November 1987. Its length covers 148.9km with 102 stops along its length. These work out to one stop every 1.4km and trains arrive every 90 seconds to 6 minutes., representing a rapid, quick-commute connector snaking underground and above on the bustling grounds of Singapore. Quiet, efficient, and using the best technologies of its time, the birth of the MRT system reflects the ambitious master vision of Singapore. Tracing its users within has revealed the cultural, historical, and geographical lineage of Singapore.

Exhibition continues 14 December 2013 to 22 December 2013 from 12pm to 6pm.
