Playing With & For The Community
Over the course of this month, SCYA and our artists have been hard at work creating facade art at Sengkang CC. Rachel Chan, Jacquelyn Soo, Jaxton Su, Leo Liu and Mathieu Augereau were invited to Sengkang CC to create art murals on 10 pillars of the CC.
The aim of this project was to get the community involved in painting the pillars of Sengkang CC. The artists would first draw on the pillars their art works. The art works were drawn up beforehand on paper and depicted scenes of post-Singapore to modern day Singapore. The theme of the artwork is to depict the transition of old Punggol/ Sengkang area into the new community it is today.
Residents from the various RCs joined in the painting sessions on 3 Saturdays were given a paint brush and guided by the artists to paint the images. Kids as well as their parents had lots of fun painting, everyone got involved! We even had one ardent kid who insisted on painting the whole day with us and came back the next day to continue painting! We called him Rachel’s Little Apprentice. People who wanted to paint registered their interest with People’s Association at the community centre and were also given a T-shirt if they committed to painting for a certain number of hours. These T-shirts acted as aprons for the young kids and adults.
MP Mr Teo Ser Luck (Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry, and Mayor, North East District) visited on 16 May to view the art works and chat with the artists and residents.
These are the completed art works for your viewing pleasure!
