Playing With & For The Community
This workshop was conducted by Billy Soh and he was assisted by Rachel Seah, both of them are artists.
On 20 and 27 May, students from Millenia Institute and Jurong West Secondary School were treated to two afternoons of workshops on creating lightpainting images for the façade art. Students and teachers had fun making image and drawings in the dark for the façade art creation.
This is part of a community art project with SCYA and People’s Association together with Gek Poh Ville Community Centre. The theme of the community art project is titled: We Love SG.
The idea was to teach students about Concept Photography and to get the community involved in painting façade art. Students were first taught communication through a design process before executing their works.
The students worked in groups and used light painting and figurative portraitures to create stunning and eye catching images, which when arranged in a series spelled out their messages both literally and figuratively.
Residents and volunteers were given a workshop and introduction on how to do light painting using long exposure method, and given the task to interpret their message in accordance to the theme through a series of images using the light painting method.
What is light painting?
Light painting is a method of photography utilizing moving lights in a controlled manner to create patterns and motifs in a long exposure photograph. It is a highly expressive way of presenting photography and could be used in a series to communicate messages and ideas beautifully.
There is going to be another public session on 14 June from 5-8pm at Gek Poh Ville CC.
The production of the facade art will happen in July 2015
